Altered Books ....love it!

Front cover of my first burnished altered book.  Such fun!

Process shot.  Dr. Phil's book never looked so good.

Finished cover.  Very happy with it.

Decided to have fun with the spine as well.  Unfortunately, I was having so much fun with the application I didn't pay attention to the books orientation, so the letter is upside down.  Oh well, live and learn.

Page one of Self Matters.  This was an ideal title for this altered book as the process is all about ME; taking time for ME, having fun playing and doing something that I enjoy.

I revisited a technique I used may years ago when making my journals and embellishing candles.  Again, lots of fun.  There are so many pretty napkins out there to play with.

I thought I would do some "paint splotching" and see what I could make from them.  Love it!

Was looking through some old art magazines laying about in my craft room and came upon aa series of pages that always spoke to me.  This one I call, "Mirror or a painting?"
This one I struggled with.  Made a total mess for my first try.  Wanted desperately to use the little girl effectively.  The layout is now layers of paint and papers as I changed it three times before I settled on this.  This now reflects the discussion I was having with my good friend and fellow teacher regarding the condition our present system is and the generation we are working with.  Dark and chaotic times.

After doodling for a bit.  I like it much better.

Playing with metallic paints, stencils and texture paste.
All fun stuff.

This is actually the first spread I completed in this altered book to use as an example for my students in an upcoming exploratory.  I will soon have a completed book to share with them.

My second spread made for the same purpose.  These last two collages gave me the bug to start altering books and using up the materials that have been stored for years in my craft room gathering dust.

This week's edition for the
"Altered Book."
What fun!

Fun with a napkin, a Jr. Mints box and a paper bag from a Freak Lunch Box purchase 5-6 years ago.    I still have to do something with the background.  But that is for another day......
Using some outfits from my stash of paper dolls.
This was fun.

More paper doll outfits and paper napkins.....the Big Eyed Girls were taken from a journaling magazine put out by  Stampington & Company.    The lighting is poor in this picture so this really does not do the spread justice.  Again, lots of sticky fun!

Suspended heart:  Idea borrowed from LorriMarie Jenkins....double sided fun.  Check out her YouTube Channel @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO0th3Xg5mU&t=30s

Up close to show the bobbles added from twine that I suspended the heart with.

Sunday's addition to the book.....
a pop up page that was
demonstrated by LorriMarie Jenkins.

The hardest part of this process was creasing her face so the pop up would work.....

And there she is....the "Big Eyes Girl."

Monday's page.....

Check out LorriMarie Jenkins' YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXh9wx2rGvWfJEXTS6DXWjg.
She comes up with some great ideas to try.
I look forward to what she does noxt.
